If you’re hoping to tie the knot in 2022, you’ve likely already been warned about the shortage of, well, everything. As the wedding world struggles to clear through the backlog of delayed weddings, many couples are finding they have two options:

a) Get creative with their wedding venue.

b) Ditch the idea of a weekend wedding.

Getting married on a Saturday has long been the preferred day of the week as it means that most people don’t have to take time off work. Your guests also have the day after to recover!

But what about getting wed on a Wednesday or tying the knot on a Thursday? Surely a weekday wedding can be workable if you plan it wisely? Here are our tips for planning your weekday wedding.

Talk about it with your nearest and dearest

If anyone in your inner circle absolutely cannot make it to a weekday wedding, then the debate is over and you’re going to have to ditch the weekend wedding. But if you give people plenty of notice, your family and close friends will probably be more than happy to use up some annual leave for your big day. If you have teachers in your life, sadly a weekday wedding might not be an option – unless you can plan it around half term!

Give everyone plenty of notice

Just because you snagged the beautiful barn venue you want, it doesn’t mean that everyone else will be available. Other vendors tend to get booked up well in advance, so don’t leave it too late. As soon as you’ve secured the date, start booking your vendors to make sure you aren’t disappointed. Why not explore our top picks for photographers to get you started?

Make it easy for guests to opt-out

The last thing you want is for guests to feel pressured to say yes to your weekday wedding and then flake at the last minute. Accept that a weekday wedding won’t work for some people, and make it easier for those people to opt out. If you’re trying to trim the guest list down, this is a really simple way to achieve it.

Get ready for the savings

That’s right! A weekday wedding is far cheaper than a weekend wedding. So you can either slash your budget and put the extra towards a honeymoon, or you can get a little more extravagant with your big day. Perhaps you could add an extra perk like stunning canapés at your reception like the ones S&K Hospitality create? And your guests will also be able to take advantage of cheaper travel and cheaper hotels!

Push the schedule later in the day

Consider getting a later start on your wedding day, so individuals have the option to only take a half-day off work, or attend after work. A 5 pm ceremony followed by a 7 pm sit down meal and kicking off your reception at 8 pm means that you don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn organising vendors and wedding hair stylists. Jennie from Bridal Hair By Jennie says it doesn’t matter when you wed, she will provide hair services whatever the time of day, “"Whether you’re dreaming of a rustic barn wedding; planning boho luxury in a woodland glade; getting married in a quirky boutique hotel; hosting an all-out festival wedding extravaganza, evening soiree, or anything in between – my experienced and versatile approach will guarantee you look and feel gorgeous on your big day - whatever the time of day".

Another idea is to stage your first look and photoshoot in the afternoon when you both look fresh, and then devote your attention to your guests in the evening.
