Planning a wedding is not for the faint hearted. It can be hectic, stressful, nerve wracking and extremely demanding! During the planning process every man and his dog will have an opinion and it’s hard not to feel fraught during this stage.

You also naturally want everything to be perfect; you want everything to run effortlessly, everyone to have a great time and most importantly you want everything to go to plan.

Gee whizz, all that is enough to keep even the most organised person awake at night!

Pre-wedding nerves are very common, so don’t worry if you’re feeling a few apprehensions on the run-up to your big day. Here are some of the most common pre-wedding jitters and tips on how to keep them at bay.

What if Covid prevents me from inviting certain people?

With many couples forced to reduce their guest lists this year, this will no doubt lead to some awkward conversations. Planning your wedding party should be fun, but it’s often a source of stress when there is a limit to how many people you can invite.

TIP: The best way to resolve this is to be truthful with your guests. Explain the limitations and hope they understand your position.

Little Channels suggests going online with guests that aren’t able be there, and we couldn’t agree more. They say, ‘e-there’ have thought up an amazing concept, allowing you to live stream your wedding to every person on your guest list who couldn’t be there in person. The e-there team will install their streaming devises into the venue, where your guests can see you say your vows from the comfort of their own sofa, with a glass of bubbly in hand.’

We've partnered up with E-There to offer you private live streaming of your wedding or event directly to guests who are unable to attend or live abroad. Please get in touch to find out more about our services and our great pricing!

What if I hate being centre of attention?

So many couples dread this! Your wedding day is not like one you’ve experienced before. It is one of the biggest days of your life, so you are bound to be nervous about having ALL EYES ON YOU!

TIP: When you are planning remember that this is YOUR DAY and you call the shots! Skip traditions that make you squirm and find a way to do it differently. Plan in some time out for yourselves i.e. take 5 mins out to walk, chat and breathe. Maybe go to your room for half an hour together.

What if the weather is horrid?!

Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather, so it’s bonkers to spend time worrying about it.

TIP: To be on the safe side, make provisions for a rainy day. If you are getting married outside, ask your venue what they do if it rains? Be prepared, but also accept that this is one thing that you may just have to leave up to fate.

What if I have a skin flare up due to stress?

When everything needs to be perfect, many brides and grooms to be, worry that they may have a breakout of spots or blotches on their skin due to stress.

TIP: If you are having your make up done, consult them prior to your day and ask if they use special products to combat this. Ask if they have touch-up kits so should a blotch appear, you can handle this throughout the day.

What if I or my partner get COLD FEET!

This fear plagues many brides and grooms to be on the run-up to their wedding day! I think it’s due to wedding planning stress. It takes over and irrational thoughts can grow arms and legs.

TIP: Take a step back and breathe! Getting left at the altar is very unlikely to happen, however if you are honestly anxious that your partner might get cold feet, don’t bottle up these feelings, talk to your partner.

If you are worried that you are going to be the one to have second thoughts, consider speaking to a counsellor.

Remember, it’s really common to have doubts before your wedding day, so try not to read too much into this.

What if I hate the photographs?

Choosing the right wedding photographer is so important. Once the wedding is over your photos will hold all those special memories and beautiful moments.

TIP: Before booking your photographer, think about your style – do they fit with you? Look at their portfolio – how many weddings have they shot? Have they experience of the venue you are getting married at? Meet them first and maybe consider having an engagement shoot prior?

Lottie Photography says, ‘Engagement shoots are super fun and a great way to get to know each other.’

What if my guests aren’t having a good time?

It’s common to be concerned about everyone having a good time. It’s your special day, but you’ll still be worried about what your guests think of the food, entertainment etc…

TIP: Remember that your guests are there to be celebrating your relationship. If you feel certain people will bring negativity to the day, carefully consider whether to invite them at all.

If your guests don’t like the entertainment you’ve chosen, or aren’t enjoying the food, don’t let them upset you. It’s one day out of their lives, I am sure they will manage!

Don’t over stress trying to keep everyone happy. Unfortunately, it’s an impossible task. Just concentrate on making sure you’re enjoying yourself. Your guests will feel your vibe and be carried along with this.

Roxanne, who recently got married at The Boundary in Essex says, ‘Don’t worry about impressing other people, most importantly, enjoy it and don’t get so drunk that you forget to eat the yummy food!’

Good advice!

What if my bridal party aren’t helpful?

Members of your bridal party, especially your groomsmen and bridesmaids, are supposed to help you on your big day, but many brides and grooms to be, end up worrying about their behaviours which is usually as a result of too much booze!

TIP: You don’t have the power to control what others do, but you can control how you react. Try to stay cool, composed and focus on the big picture. Before you choose who will be in your bridal party, have some long conversations with your partner and think hard about their characters and nature.
